HF converter for SDR Funcube dongle

image

Tony CT1FFU and Diogo CT2IRW has released a converter for the Fun Cube dongle. The design is a based on the old NE602 workhorse. One new approach is to use a wideband MMIC amp in the front end. The unit is powered via a USB connector. Looks like this may be a good add on if you want to do some basic HF monitoring with the Fun Cube. 1. hello, very good, bonjour a tous très sympa cette réalisation.

  2. Hmm…. I would be concerned about intermod in this unit. The IIP3 input intercept point for the NE602 is only about -15dBm. If you use an SBL-1 or ADE-1 mixer, IIP3 is +15dBm. That’s a lot better! Also, the NE602 has gain that will only hurt you on intermod. You don’t need that gain for HF!

    • Hi Steve! Thanks for commenting. The designers of the unit realized this and launched a later version that uses a passive Minicircuits mixer. See another post about that on http://www.lb3jh.net However, the new unit they have launched has an ubstable local oscillator 🙂 I think a design with 1) Passive high IIP3 mixer, SI570 LO, better filtering, better casing would be an improvement. 73 LB3HC
