Tony CT1FFU and Diogo CT2IRW has released a converter for the Fun Cube dongle. The design is a based on the old NE602 workhorse. One new approach is to use a wideband MMIC amp in the front end. The unit is powered via a USB connector. Looks like this may be a good add on if you want to do some basic HF monitoring with the Fun Cube. hello, very good, bonjour a tous très sympa cette réalisation.
Hmm…. I would be concerned about intermod in this unit. The IIP3 input intercept point for the NE602 is only about -15dBm. If you use an SBL-1 or ADE-1 mixer, IIP3 is +15dBm. That’s a lot better! Also, the NE602 has gain that will only hurt you on intermod. You don’t need that gain for HF!
Hi Steve! Thanks for commenting. The designers of the unit realized this and launched a later version that uses a passive Minicircuits mixer. See another post about that on http://www.lb3jh.net However, the new unit they have launched has an ubstable local oscillator 🙂 I think a design with 1) Passive high IIP3 mixer, SI570 LO, better filtering, better casing would be an improvement. 73 LB3HC
